I am feeling much better so more active. I'm back to the routine of a large pad every morning, so despite increased leaking, no accidents. I meet so many women with this problem and each one deals with it her own way. Some just chose to stay home, some empty more often, and some pad up and get on with their day. There isn't a right or a wrong here, but I prefer to continue being active, so I am always searching for a better pad, or even better, a better treatment. I have had several treatments, but there are a few I haven't tried. I want to try every option available so I can beat this or at least, tame it.
I have some favorite pads. I am allergic to "Always" materials so I can't wear those. The menstrual pads often work well for lighter leaking and the "Always" has a comfortable shape, but not for me. The "Carefree Ultra" is my favorite light pad. It is a little more absorbent than most, it is very thin and comfortable, and the materials are not irritating to my skin. Anymore, though, I require a true incontinence pad, of which, I like Poise or Tena. Both offer soft materials and are very absorbent. When my leaking is extreme, I have used one of these larger pads inside a Depends. This saves some money and you don't have to carry around extra Depends, just the pads. I change the pads quite often due to odor and skin irritation from urine (like a diaper rash).
I am looking into some treatment options. I will fill you in if I decide to proceed. Just want to say, "don't let this interfere with your life." Find a good doctor specially trained in treating incontinence and find the right combination of pads/diapers. It is embarassing, but most people you encounter will never know you have a problem.
I haven't been here for over three years. I have had a surprising improvement in my leaking. Part of it is due to significant weight loss, but most of it occurred before the weight loss. The problem is a rare day where the leakage is much worse. Not sure what causes it and I still wear a large pad just in case. I am also considering a trial of the bladder pacemaker. Probably won't go there unless my leaking gets worse. Curooms what others have tried. What's worked or not worked?
